Bad economy hits the recycling industry

February 25, 2009 · 2 comments

My new year’s resolution, if you remember, is to be optimistic this year. Well, it’s been really hard to stay optimistic when friends and family are getting laid off all around me. I worry about today and tomorrow and not just the future. I don’t spend as much money, in fear that something ‘bad’ might happen. I reuse even more now. I am extra careful with my purchases. And believe it or not, I am trying to keep everyone healthy because we can’t ‘afford’ to get sick, literally.

But I saw this and got depressed. This is a news clip from ABC’s Nightline News. There is a commercial in the beginning but wait until it’s over and watch the clip about how the recycling industry is being hit hard due to this bad economy. Even if we are conscientious about the environment and do the right thing by recycling , the recycling industry is in trouble.

Another video and articles from greenearthfriend.

And read these articles from Connecticut to Minneapolis. These are just the two I read. There are more.

What can we do? Leave me your comments or suggestions.
