I looked everywhere to see if I can add a simple facebook button on my blog. But I couldn’t find it. Facebook has a feature where I can add a badge on my blog but it also has update information below it and I didn’t want that. It was too big. I just wanted a simple blue rectangle button that says “facebook” on it.
Well, I finally figured out how to add it – many searches and posting on various forums later, I found no answer. But I had a “aha!” moment and I resorted to my own creative thinking and a bit of “What if…?”
Let’s see if I can explain it here and share my humble discovery. You have to realize that I am really computer challenged so this tutorial is for someone just like me. My blog is with blogger so this instruction is for blogger. I’m sure other blogging sites have similar features I’m describing.
1. Copy an image of facebook button here and save it on a file in your computer. I saved mine on my desktop. May be you can click this and save it. Right click on your mouse and choose “Save image as…” onto your desktop. You’ll need it later. I’ll tell you when.
2. Go to your layout page, click “add a gadget” button.

3. You should see this page. Click the “+” button next to Picture.
5. Go to Image and select “From your computer”. click Browse and add the link of the location where you saved the picture.
6. Then, go to the “Link” line and paste the entire link address for your facebook business page. Mine looks like this. http://www.facebook.com/pages/ecokaren/120743038232 Yours will be something like..http://www.facebook.com/pages/myshop/#########?ref=ts Make sure you copy and paste the entire line from your facebook business page and not your personal page. Click “SAVE”.
7. You should be back on the layout page. Click “SAVE” and “View Blog” You should see the blue facebook rectangular button on the side of your blog page. If you want to move it around, you can go back to the payout page and move it to wherever you want. That’s it!
Please leave me a comment if this tutorial was helpful or if I forgot something. I always found tutorials like this helpful and learned a lot from them. So I wanted to share something I learned from trial and error so that you can benefit. Make sure you try the button when you finish. There’s nothing more embarrassing than adding a button on your blog that gets lost in cyberspace.
