Swine Flu – Update

April 29, 2009 · 2 comments

Since the time I posted about Swine Flu this morning, World Health Organization has increased the alert level to Phase 5 – the second highest. Dr Margaret Chan, WHO’s Director-General, stated that “all countries should immediately activate their pandemic preparedness plans.” This pandemic has gotten the attention of the biggest health organization in the world and has the world on notice about this influenza. But, again, this doesn’t mean run to the nearest emergency room when you sneeze; after all, it is an allergy season (as is in my husband’s case). Just be vigilant about washing your hands frequently and protecting yourself against anyone who might be sick. But then, that’s true for any infectious disease, such as common cold, isn’t it?

Five Swine Flu* DON’Ts

1. Rush to the ER
2. Don’t be afraid to eat pork
3. Don’t hoard antivirals
4. Don’t leave home if feels sick
5. Don’t Panic

*Swine Flu is now officially called “2009 H1N1 Flu”

The swine flu is a bit scary and I hope that it doesn’t spread as their predicting. It’s worse when you have children who have to go to school because you don’t know how others are protecting themselves.

Great post. They closed two schools in our small town. It would be wise for everyone to not panic but stay home if they are really sick with fever, etc. I’m always shocked at how many don’t. No reason to be paranoid but would be great if people could be wise.
