Upcycled Black Chiffon Dress
How is your shop eco-friendly?
I use a lot of things that have been discarded, either from thrift stores, junk piles, or from friends. For example, the scooter helmet in my shop was found in a junk pile on trash day. I cleaned it up and doodled on it. I have friends who are always giving me things and saying, “I was going to throw this away but I know you can do something with it.” A friend was going to toss a black dress because it had a hole on the front, but gave it to me instead. I repaired the hole, added some trims and its for sale in my shop. I do love a challenge.

Tell us about your Etsy shop.
I originally sold crochet baby blankets, but very non-traditional ones. I have been making things all of my life. As a stay-at-home mom, I was happy to have a venue for selling my items. It keeps my brain from getting too mushy.
Do you sell anywhere else?
Nope. I don’t have time for more than one venue right now.
What’s the favorite item you’ve made so far?
Well, I think the duct tape wedding bouget is so cool but I once covered a vintage purse in googely eyes…
What has been the most useful lesson you’ve learned about Etsy?
Promotion off-site and excellent pictures are crucial. I still struggle to get good pics but I’ve come a long way.
Vintage Acrylic Candle Holders
How do you see your store developing?
I just like repurposing items and mixing in vintage items to create a sort of a eco-friendly shabby punk style – think Rachel Ashwell meets Blondie. My tag line is ‘Like a disco ball on a dirt road…’ I think that sums it up pretty well.
What have you been doing today that I’ve interrupted?
Laundry, but I was thankful for the interruption. Interrupt that any time. Seriously.

Karen, I’m really enjoying “getting to know” eco-friendly sellers here on your blog. (And i love that dress in the top image!)
Amy,
I enjoying reading the interviews and posting them on Fridays. There are some cool and creative Eco Etsians out there. Glad you are enjoying this feature.
