I am a modern rug maker.
Woven rug with blues and browns.
I have been weaving for over twenty years. It was only a few years ago that I started, after thinking about it for many years, weaving rugs from recycled textiles. I started weaving on a frame loom, which limited the size of rug I could weave. I have now adapted a tapestry loom to weave with rag warp, so I can weave runners.

I love working with colour and texture. My creations are made with the once loved textiles of others. I use recycled textile because there is a lot of it out there and it’s available to me. I buy my textile from a textile recycler in the south of Ontario, who sends me 75 pound bales of textile on the Greyhound bus. I get this textile sight unseen, I have no choice in colour, I get what I get and I work with it.

I see a blurred line between art and what is utilitarian. I put coloured warp and weft into my rugs in the same way a painter puts paint on a canvas.
