Ecostore’s Launch at Duane Reade in Herald Square, NYC

I don’t usually meet the people behind the products I review but I had a great opportunity to meet the wonderful people from Ecostore last Friday. Ecostore joined forces with Duane Reade in New York City (NYC) and it launched its line at the newest store on Herald Square, opposite from Macy’s on 34th Street and Broadway. Ecostore products will be in all Duane Reade stores in Manhattan beginning of 2010. With so many all- natural products on the market these days, Ecostore has its work cut out to compete with them but if it keeps its promise to manufacture them here in America and maintains its stringent standards of having “No Nasty Chemicals” in its products, I think it will do very well in NYC and soon, throughout the country.

Lyne, the VP of Operations, gave out soap samples to customers and I took one home. Even before I used it, I knew I was going to like it because the coconut smell was so delicious. When I brought it home, my husband said to me, “Do soaps have expiration dates?” I didn’t know that but when I saw the box, it did!! I was flabbergasted. But I suspected that the expiration date was needed because it has “No Nasty Chemicals” to preserve it forever. Well, the soap was divine. My hands feel like I put lotion on them after I used the soap.

One thing I like about Ecostore is that it carries so many different lines of products that I don’t have to look anywhere else to buy different things. The president of the company, “Charlie the Ecoman”, showed me around the store where all Ecostore products were and we were going up and down the stairs and everywhere! Their products were in baby section, shampoo section, cosmetics section, laundry section, and cleaning section….just about the whole store, except for the food section. But they might as well been in that section too!!

So, if you still haven’t entered my $25 gift certificate Ecostore giveaway, it’s not too late. The giveaway ends this Friday and I will announce the winner on Saturday.

Here are some pictures from my visit to Ecostore at Duane Reade’s Grand Opening in NYC.

Suzanne, Thanks for sharing the video. It was great to hear that some of these emerging cities around the world are doing what developing countries fail to do to green their cities. I'm partial to what Seoul achieved, myself, but Rio and Bogota have done some neat things too! Thanks again! Karen

Firstly thanks for the great post and the lovely photos of ecostore in Duane. I work for ecostore in New Zealand and was thrilled to see the photos. I have now found your blog. What a treat! Interested in what you are saying about NY. Here is a nifty YouTube clip about greening of cities. http://www.good.is/post/emerging-city-innovation/

Allypye, Thanks for stopping by. New Yorkers know they can get eco friendly products at various natural stores in Manhattan but they might not be easily accessible from where they live. However, Duane Reade is on every block and many of them are open 24 hours, including the one that I visited. So it was clearly a great business decision for Ecostore to be affiliated with Duane Reade but also very beneficial for New Yorkers. I'm so glad that New Yorkers can now purchase this line of eco friendly, all natural products any time they want to at any of their neighborhood Duane Reade nearby. Now only if I can work on them to distribute near where I live in NY. Tee hee hee.....:)
