Fabulous Friday Featured Seller – Larkstudio

October 2, 2009 · 3 comments

Larkstudio is a whimsical shop stocked with upcycled housewares, jewelry, and paper goods. Dawn Anderson founded Lark Studio in 2003, as a practical outlet for the handmade and unique items she had enjoyed making for years. While her varied creations may not seem to share a common thread, all of her work is unified with an eco-consciousness and a remarkable attention to detail that her customers have come to expect.

Cats or dogs?

Neither really…I have allergies. But if I had to choose – dogs, definitely.

Star Wars or Sleepless in Seattle?

Star Wars – I’m a child of the 1970’s.

Fruit or chocolate?

Fruit dipped in chocolate please.

Favorite meal?

I’m a bit of a foodie so this is hard… a good steak with blue cheese crumbles, a sweet roasted sweet potato, a fresh salad with good olive oil & balsamic vinegar dressing and my own homemade peach cobbler for dessert.

City break or weekend in the country?

I’m a bit of a city snob since I live there so I look forward to the weekends in the country.

Soaps or documentaries?

Documentaries. My husband is a film maker.

Bath or shower?

Shower

Dress or jeans?

Depends on the occasion. I’m equally comfortable in both.

Silk

What brought you to Etsy? Tell us about your shop.

I’ve been a member of Etsy since July 2005 (Etsy launched in June 2005) and am a bit of an ‘old head’ in the indie craft community. I started my business in 2003 and founded both the Richmond Craft Mafia and indiecraftshows.com in 2005. Etsy was the new thing and I really liked the idea of a marketplace dedicated to only handmade. Lark Studio has evolved many times since then but has always remained an eclectic boutique carrying everything from clothing, to jewelry, to accessories and house wares.

How is your shop eco-friendly?

I’ve always enjoyed taking trash to treasure and crafts made from upcycled/recycled items are now the focus of my shop. I also use recycled paper for my printing (tags, business cards, promo items) and use recycled packing materials whenever I can.

Do you sell anywhere else?

Yes. I have my own website larkstudioart and I sell at local markets and craft shows throughout the east coast.

What’s the favorite item you’ve made so far?

That’s constantly changing and is usually the latest thing I’ve made. Right now I’m psyched about my audio reel clocks (functional clocks made from old audio reels and/or their boxes).

What has been the most useful lesson you’ve learned (about Etsy) so far?

To treat it as what it really is, another venue for selling my wares, and nothing more.

How do you see your store developing?

I just hope it continues to grow!

What have you been doing today that I’ve interrupted?

Working on items for holiday shows – recycled gift tags & recycled scrabble tile ornaments.

Fun interview. Great shop and really like your 45 desk clocks. I could see my first 45 made up like that…what a memory keeper!
