Fabulous Friday Featured Seller – Melissakate

Melissakate is owned by a printing artist who makes linoleum prints by carving out the designs and block printing on note cards, stationery, tags, and any paper forms. Many of her artwork is done on eco-friendly paper and card stock and uses biodegradable plastic sleeves to ship her artwork.

What brought you to Etsy? Tell us about your shop.
I saw a reference to Etsy on a blog actually! I went out and bought a few lino blocks immediately and started listing about a month later.

How is your shop eco-friendly?
I used 100% recycled paper for most of my cards, actual cellophane sleeves for the cards that are biodegradable to keep them safe in transit and recycled mailers when I ship! I also save all the cardboard when I receive packages in the mail and use it for backing.

Do you sell anywhere else?
I also sell at Renegade Handmade in Chicago.

What’s the favorite item you’ve made so far?
Wow. That’s a tough call. I love Buffalo Bill, and my Little Birthday Squirrel, but I’m always most excited about whatever project I’m currently working on.

What has been the most useful lesson you’ve learned (about Etsy) so far?
Promote, promote, promote! I think off site promotion is really important.

How do you see your store developing?
I think right now I’m most interested in painting and screen printing. I’ve just started screen printing and I really enjoy it.

What have you been doing today that I’ve interrupted?
absolutely nothing!
