Buy Nothing Black Friday

November 27, 2009 · 5 comments

Fridays are usually set aside for introducing fabulous sellers from Etsy.

However, today is considered to be “Black Friday” or “Buy Nothing Day”.  As I said before, I strongly believe you have to assess what you truly need and what gifts you have to buy so that you don’t contribute to excess waste. And, if you need to buy  gifts for your loved ones for the holiday, you should buy eco-friendly handmade goods and support these eco-friendly artists.

I will be featuring eco friendly items from Etsy throughout the weekend until Cyber Monday.

I am having a 40% OFF SALE on all my items until Cyber Monday. Some sellers are having FREE SHIPPING. So please check back and consider buying eco friendly handmade goodies for this Holiday for your loved ones.

Thanks for this lovely post and for raising awareness about handmade + eco-friendly. I completely agree and believe everyone can take small steps toward sustainable living like using the time-honored Japanese tradition of furoshiki for wrapping all those handcrafted, earth-friendly gifts. They are reusable! My artisan furoshikis, savvywraps, are 100% biodegradable. Cheers, Mandy

By the way, I ADORE your hand-stitched vintage furoshiki cloth!

Thank you so much Karen for featuring my Ninja Otedama/Beanbags and for your common sense approach!

Making eco-friendly and wise choices is really important. If there’s something we truly need – then yes go get a bargain. But if it’s not, lets save our money and resources. Just buying things because they are a good deal and letting them go to waste doesn’t do us good in the long run.

Mandy:: so good of you to compliment my furoshiki while you carry some gorgeous ones yourself! I remember my grandmother always using furoshiki type of cloth wrap to carry things and I never gave it a big thought until recently. Those old wise women knew what they were doing!

Amy:: those ninjas are soooo cute. Like you said, being green is using common sense. I know we are all watching what we spend and I think if people realize that being green doesn’t have to be costly, then, they will be more green.

Nice picks Karen, that Ninja is super cute. Thank you so much for including me.
