I recently wrote about my visits to local farms and a great gourmet catering/take-out spot in Bedford Hills, NY, called The Perennial Chef.
I am so happy to share some great news with you…well, for me, anyway but maybe not so much for my family since this means I’ll be working more than my waking hours and not necessarily having the dinner on time and making them wrestle with dust bunnies on weekends.
I will be blogging for them and managing their social media.
Yeah! Me!! *Doing the happy dance*
And besides the obvious “economic” reason why I am so happy about this project is that, I believe in their philosophy. There are so many projects that I wouldn’t be happy being involved with because of the incongruent ideology with mine. But the owners of The Perennial Chef truly care about food and the health of their customers. Leslie, one of the owners, said to me, “I wouldn’t sell foods that I wouldn’t serve to my family.” I think that is exceptional and it’s so easy to work with people who share your passion.
And more importantly, I love their food!
What do I mean by their philosophy?
The Perennial Chef is all about sustainable ingredients – like wild caught salmon, antibiotic and hormone free meats, organic vegetables, fresh seasonal produce, organic fair trade coffees, and local purveyor of everything ethical and delicious. In fact, they put their ethics before dollars when they stopped carrying Chilean Sea Bass because its overfished. They lost a customer who bought their Chilean Sea Bass weekly because she refuses to buy any other fish from the store. She only wanted Chilean Sea Bass. So even though, losing a loyal customer and money, they didn’t succumb to the pressures of the mighty dollar.
How awesome is that?
It is my dream project for sure.
I will keep you posted as to the progress and share their link to the blog when it is set up.
Please follow on Twitter here (@perennialchef) and be their fan on facebook. (still trying to shorten their url as we speak)
Meanwhile, when you see a business that you agree with, please support them. After all is said and done, what are we striving for, anyway? It’s supporting the local businesses that share your ethical values and passion.
To me, that’s the bottom line. Not the mighty dollar. Don’t you agree?
