Team Eco Etsy’s Handmade for Earth Day Auction

I know there are diehard environmentalists who don’t appreciate commercialism that’s tied to Earth Day. But, let me tell you what Team Eco Etsy does every year. We sponsor Handmade for Earth Day Auction to raise money for non-profit organizations. So this year, I am participating again.

In fact, I just finished (yes, it’s past midnight) uploading the auction pages on Eco Etsy’s site and oh boy, am I going to be in trouble because all the donated items are so amaaaazing!

You just HAVE to go on over there and bid on some of these items. They will knock your socks off! Really! And if you know anyone who might like to bid, please spread the word. Team is donating the proceeds to Habitat for Humanity Japan to help the disaster relief efforts in Japan.

Here is the skinny on the auction.

Team Eco Etsy’s Handmade for Earth Day Auction.

WHAT: Handmade for Earth Day Auction sponsored by Team Eco Etsy will feature treasuries filled with eco-goodies that Team Eco Etsy members donated for different categories listed below. A bidder will be able to bid on as many categories as they want.

WHY: To celebrate and raise awareness about Earth Day, Team Eco Etsy proudly sponsors “Handmade for Earth Day Auction” and the proceeds from the auction is donated to a non-profit organization. This year, the proceeds will be donated to Habitat for Humanity in Japan to support the relief effort, to help rebuild and to aid Japanese earthquake survivors.

WHEN: The auctions will begin today, Monday, April 4, 2011 and will end on Sunday, April 24th, 2010. The winners will be announced on Monday, April 25th, 2010.

WHO: Auction is open worldwide.

WHERE: All auctions will be posted on this site, where bidders can post their bids in the comment section for different assortments of eco-goodies.

Oh, the upcycled corduroy pillow (with vintage laced removable brooch) above is what I’ve donated to the cause.

So, hurry and do something great for Earth Day. Help raise money to help those in need!

OK, I might be a little guilty of railing against buying stuff for Earth Day. :-) However, I totally support the cause, and since I support buying handmade (in moderation), I might have to take that back. Off to go check out the goodies!

Dang it! You heard me. LOL. Seriously, I hear you. I hate all the Earth Day this and Earth Day that but it is an opportunity to bring awareness to the public - just even by the mere mention of the two words attached to an event like this - and this is the second year our team is doing an auction to donate to a good cause. I know one team member who won a package last year, gave it away on her blog afterwards. So see what you like and you can shop for all your gifting needs for the year and do a good deed by supporting Habitat for Humanity. We'll have different categories next two Mondays. :)

What a great idea for a great cause Karen. Thank you for doing this. I will be sure to head over to Eco Etsy to take a look at all the auction items. The pillow is beautiful!

Hey Lori, Thank You. We are one busy team. And very generous one too since more than 60 members donated their eco-goodies for this huge auction! There will be two auction categories this week, three next week and three more on the third week - the week of Earth Day. So come on over and take a peek! You can get all your gift needs for the year from the auction. :)
