Interesting Facts About Thanksgiving

This year’s Thanksgiving post will be different from last year.

I think you know how to green your Thanksgiving and you know I’ve adopted another turkey  by now.

But…..

Did you know that turkey was NOT served on first Thanksgivng?
The first feast probably served seafood and there were no pies or cakes either.

And in 2011, 248 million turkeys were raised for consumption – up 2% from last year.
And did you know that Minnesota is the turkey capital in the country?

Wow. Those numbers are just mind boggling! We didn't eat turkey this past Thanksgiving but we had everything else - stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, pie, etc. My dad doesn't really like turkey so at least one was given its stay of execution this year! And growing up in the very state where those early settlers had the first Thanksgiving it wasn't uncommon to have seafood at any time of year, no shock that would have been a big part of the meal! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Hey Jenn, I didn't eat turkey either but stuffed myself with all the veggies. I still have leftover turkey and still thinking of ways of using it up. I would have rather eaten seafood myself but my carnivores loves turkey, only on Thanksgiving though. Seafood will be for X-Mas. I don't know who came up with that tradition in my non-Catholic family but....:)
