Day 11: 24 Days of Green Christmas Crafts – Hoopster Snowman

Ever since I saw Betz White’s Hoopie the Snowman, I knew I was going to make it some day. But I don’t felt wool so I had to think of another way to dress this little guy.

Then, I realized that I had a bag – ok, a basket – full of old t-shirts; some whole and some remnants from the T-Shirt Memory Quilt I made. I figured, there are some of you who live in warm climates and you might not necessarily have wool sweaters to felt, so this t-shirt alternative will work better for you.

You’ll need:

  • 2 embroidery hoops – one large and one med size
  • some fabric of your choice,
  • twist ties to hold the hoops together
  • buttons
  • glue or thread

You can follow Betz’s instructions like I did, except, using the t-shirt jersey and making santa’s hat out of t-shirts. To make the pom pom, I cut  a few t-shirt strips, stretched them out to make them stringy – like when I made t-shirt yarn –  and it worked great! Make sure to dab a little glue to secure the buttons when  you sew so that you don’t sew them all crooked.

You can embroider the buttons and the face features if you want or you can just glue the buttons if you don’t know how to sew.

How simple is this, eh? Make one today. Or two and give one away as a present.

See you tomorrow on Day 12!
