Day 12: 24 Days of Green Christmas Crafts – Gift Card Holder Ornament

WOW! We’ve made it half way through “24 Days of Green Christmas Crafts”!

Time flies when you are having fun! I can’t believe it’s 12 days before Christmas already. Can you?

I hope you are having a blast making these crafts as I am. And thanks for spreading the word about this series. We are getting some nice visitors and I am so glad you are helping to promote green Christmas. Thank You!

Ok, today’s craft is really simple and thank goodness it’s easy because I had to make this at the last minute. My DD decided to make her “Secret Chocolate Cookies” tonight for her school……at 9PM!! Needless to say, there were many, “Mommmm…….!” preceded questions and I had less than 20 minutes to make and post this tute.

But even if it is a simple craft to make, it’s somewhat important since gift card is one of the best gifts to give. Who doesn’t love an iTune gift card these days? In fact, I stopped thinking about gifts for teens lately and just gave them iTune cards. I haven’t had one complaint yet!

Gift Card Holder Ornament

What  you’ll need:

  • Two 10 inch square coordinating fabric scraps
  • Fabric Glue
  • Freezer paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Thread
  • Button for decoration
  • Ribbon or rikrak

Glue the wrong sides of the two fabric pieces together. Download the envelope pattern, enlarge it according to the instruction and trace it onto freezer paper. Gently iron the freezer paper onto the fabric, cut out the pattern, and peel off the paper. Gather the three points towards the middle and either glue them together or sew a button in the middle, making sure to catch all three points. Make a hanging hoop with ribbon or rikrak, glue it on the remaining point and let it dry. And you are done!

It’s a great gift card holder that also act as an ornament. If you don’t want to use it as an ornament, make it slightly larger, fold down all sides towards the middle and seal it with glue. You can use paper for this envelope as well instead of fabric.

Give a gift card from iTune, membership card to a gym, museum, nature center, or anywhere but the big box stores. It’ll be greener and no one will return your gift!

See you tomorrow on Day 13th!!
