I had a chance to attend the taping of Etsy show at Martha Stewart’s a few weeks ago. It was yet another chance to drool over the empire she built and actually see her in action…and her devoted and professional staff, doing their perfect jobs.
Don’t ask me how in the world I got invited to be there, toting my humble Herban Crafts box and wearing my {new} necklace from my shop. But it was really fun to watch the whole production, as an audience this time. This was my first time attending a taping of a TV show and it was just as fun as I had imagined.
I couldn’t take photos during the show, as you can imagine why, but here are some images before and after the show, taken with my phone, under less-than-the-best lighting (and timing) situations.
Martha Stewart’s Etsy Show
It was a cold spring morning and we were told to wear colorful outfits, which was challenging since we couldn’t predict what the weather was going to be like – Do we wear colorful Spring or black Winter outfits?!!?? I thought I was the only one stressing over the wardrobe issue but it turns out, everyone had the same dilemma. But colorful or not, here we are, waiting by the door.
Once we were inside the building, we went through a security check with metal detectors like at the airport! Then, once we were admitted into a large room,”Joe” educated us in five minutes on how we should ‘behave’ before, during, and after the show. He was funny and kept the mood light and exciting. I gathered, he’s done this for many shows before.
And finally, we were led inside the studio with bright lights, cameras, and even a realistically looking Manhattan skyline!
Martha’s test kitchen with busy chefs working. I need a staff like that, don’t you?
Martha’s busy staff making sure everything is perfect!
Matt Stinchcomb, Etsy vice president of marketing spoke about selling on Etsy, Tracy of Focus Line Art and Jessica Partain of Inedible Jewelry crafted with Martha. And in the two hours of taping, there was only one retake due to technical issues but the whole entire show was taped without retakes! It was as if it she was doing a LIVE show. She didn’t stutter, she didn’t forget her lines, and no staff members made mistakes. All the items were properly placed and ready to be either photographed or used in the show.
I was really impressed.
At the end of the show, Martha had time to answer one question. Also, she directed her staff to take photos of each of us with our items so she can put them up on her website. I think I actually heard her staff moan in unison.
And here is my toothy smile with my necklace and my Herban Craft box on her website.
And because I feel bad that you didn’t get to go, I am giving away some of the goodies that Martha generously gave us at the end of the show.
I’m giving away the book “The Polymer Cookbook” by Jennifer and Susan Partain. It’s like the bible of polymer clay foods. And three packs of polymer clay are yours too!
All you have to do is answer this question. “What about Martha Stewart do you like?”
This giveaway is for my e-mail subscribers who are 18 y.o., US residents in contiguous states only. Sorry.
And the giveaway ends on Friday May 18th at 11:59PM.
Good Luck!
We have a winner! Congrats Karen!!
