I finally had some crafting time to make these necklaces for my shop on Etsy.
I didn’t target Black Friday or Small Business Saturday or even Cyber Monday. I just wanted to get these special necklaces up so I can support Hurricane Sandy victims.
I bribed my brother to cough up his NYC Subway maps so I can encase them in these glass domed pendants. A portion of profits will be donated to OccupySandy.Org as the residents are in dire need of space heaters. I’ve collected close to $400 from ads and I will be adding the rest to buy as many of these heaters as I can. It’s been cold here in NY.
Then, I made these library card catalog necklaces because I really like the way the dewey decimal system works. Remember those? These are actual library catalogue cards from a very VERY prestigious New England College prep school. They’ve gotten away with library catalogues so they were ‘throwing’ away these awesome vintage cards. Probably a collector’s item, knowing the prestige the school carries with its history.
Then, here are dear-to-my-heart Beethoven series with vintage music sheets behind the glasses. These are from my own collection of vintage classical music books. They are from the 60′s and these notes hold special memories in my heart.
The pendants and chains are made with pewter and precious metal plating. They are made in U.S.A. and they do not contain nickel or lead. The chains are 24″ (61cm) long and the pendants are 7/8″ (22mm) wide.
If you have a teacher, student, book lover, musician, and a New Yorker on your Christmas list, check out these pieces from my shop. And let me know if you need gift wrapping.
Hope this season of giving will carve out a special place in your heart for the Hurricane victims in NY.
