Why would I want to eat such a weird sounding dish when there are so many other dishes that are so tasty? The same goes for, tripe, chicken feet, pâté, or Foie Grás, “Sweet” Bread, etc… Gah~ To justify my [...]

Hurricane Irene Cometh

As you heard, Irene threw a tantrum but wasn’t as bitchy as we feared. I guess she couldn’t handle NYC. But nevertheless, she did wrinkle my skirt a bit last week. Instead of spending a leisurely drive to and from Andrew’s school, we hurriedly dropped him off on Thursday and came right back on Friday, well, early Saturday morning. We took a long winded, scenic drive, through back roads and [...]

Michael’s joins the recycling fun.

Just a quick post……. I don’t know when Michael’s (the craft store) started having Plastic Bag Recycling Bins in their stores but I was so pleased to find one in a local store today. So I took a picture to share it with you. This is the type of bins that are in supermarkets and Barnes and Nobles. Yay!

Say ‘No’ to Paper Cups

I realized today that I haven’t bought paper cups in awhile. I run my dishwasher once every two days and I noticed there’s been more cups in it. And then, it occurred to me that I haven’t bought paper cups in a while and we’ve been using glasses. When my kids were younger, we used paper cups and plastic cups instead of glass for obvious safety reasons. I’ll admit, it [...]

Barnes and Noble joins the recycling fun

You know when you want to buy a red car and the only color cars you see on the road are red cars? Well, now that I know you can recycle filmy plastic bags, all I notice are those big tall recycling bins with circling arrows indicating “Plastic Bags Recycling”. (As I repeatedly make this point, I can hear myself sounding…….uh……stupid. Let me clarify that. I knew I can recycle [...]

What do I do with all these bread bags?

We don’t eat that much bread in our house. But lately, my son wants PB&J morning, noon, and night….on (gulp!) white bread. I have no problem with peanut butter (although almond or cashew butter would be better but I’ll settle with peanut butter as long as we are not consuming it by gallons) or the globs of fruit variety (at least they are from fruit) because I can get organic [...]

Environmentally responsible act a day!

Did you hear about this guy who did not throw out trash for a whole entire year? Yeah, it’s true and he blogged about it. He just finished his stint and I just caught a glimpse of it at the end. That’s mind boggling to me. As much as I try to recycle things around my house, I’m always throwing something out. In fact, today is a garbage pick up [...]

Being Optimistic in 2009

As we bring in the New Year, most people make New Year’s resolutions but regret later for making them or ignore them totally. Well, this year will be different for me. I made an attainable resolution and encouraged my family to do the same. Oh, and to have just one. My family’s resolutions are: 1) Be more positive – Me 2) Be less stressed – my hubby 3) Manage time [...]

My Favorite Green Products

It’s only been recent that I have been able to find “natural” cleaning products in the local supermarket aisles. I don’t have to go to the “Green Market” to find them anymore. What’s even better, the prices have come down too. Even Clorox makes its own line of “Green Works” now. The big guns are catching up. Finally, they noticed what we want. This is a list of products I’ve [...]

Paper or Plastic? Neither

No doubt about it, plastic can be a lifesaver. Or at least make life convenient. But it can be lethal too. The latest plastic news that hit the media was relating to Bi Phenol – A (BPA) found in popular Nalgene water bottles and baby bottles. But it’s also in places that we can’t even imagine….like on the lining of milk cartons and on organic banana stems!! Even the famous [...]
