Custom Orders – Upcycled Pillow Cases and Utensil Pouch

As you have might have guessed, unexpected trip to upstate for a marathon, back-to-school, school trips, and start of another busy sports season left me with no time to make anything for my shop.

But as fate would have it, (crafting God wanted me to get back to crafting, I guess) I received two custom orders recently.

So, I made these two beautiful items and I wanted to share them.

I love making things out of scraps and remnants as I feel as though I am using up materials that no one wants and rescuing them from landfills. I bought these scraps at such a cheap price. They are perfectly fine fabrics. Just small pieces that no one wants. (Although I bought these silks, there are ways to ‘rescue’ fabrics and get them for free. See my post on how to score FREE fabrics from upholstery and design stores)

I already made this pillow case and a nice customer Celticdragon (who makes beautiful jewelry. Check out her store.) wanted a matching, not exactly but close, pair.

And I was able to put together enough pieces to make this fraternal twin,  number #2.

So now they are Fraternal Twin Silk Pillows.

They are not exactly alike, but you know they are related. Even the brooches are a little different. I like that. And to send them off nicely, I made this matching pouch.

I’m sure the customer can find many uses for the silk pouch.

My second custom order was from a very nice seller, Beans Things (she makes exquisite pendants using upcycled pictures. Very Cool.) She wanted a Southwestern themed utensil case. Well, let me tell you, I have a good collection of fabric but I couldn’t find one Southwest pattern. Shame on me. But I found a scrap of tapestry type of fabric in Southwest motif over the Labor Day weekend in Upstate NY so I was able to make this eco friendly utensil case.

How great is carrying your own utensils instead of using disposable plastic flatware? Totally eco friendly and totally chic!

And you can fold and wrap the cord around it so that you can keep them from clanking to each other.

Now, what can I make for you?
