Here are your fellow challengers. Let’s do this together and simplify our lives in 2012!

De-Clutter 2012 Challengers

1. Karen Lee
Cant’ wait to get my house organized again! So glad you are with me!

2. Beth
My husband and I are both academics (excess paper and books) and he is descended from hoarders (excess everything from collectible coke cans to Metallica towels). I need all the support I can get.

3. Jennifer
I love this challenge, and I always need an extra kick in the pants for motivation. Count me in!

4. Brenda

5. Kristina
I’m in! Definitely need the push to purge some stuff.

6. Mary
I came home from my 3rd trip to Goodwill since Christmas only to find this post. Synchronicity! I’m right there with you. This is a great time to get rid of the excess stuff.

What a great challenge! I have been a bit ahead of the game with our move… Moving is a great way to chellenge yourself at getting rid of the “unecessary”. I did not document it but i should have !!! Boxes of clothes and “things” for “Emmaus” ( like the Salvation Army” in France) and things for the recycling center. The scary thing is when we move back in our new house in 3 months, I am almost sure that I will have to do this all over again ( in a smaller amount though…). So i will look from a far your month of de-cluttering. It will give me ideas for Springtime…!

9. Sonya
De-cluttering is so in line with my Simple Living Challenge that I cannot miss it.

10. Karen
Enough is enough!

11. Linda
It just so happens that Mark and I vowed to de-clutter during the holiday week and we managed to get through the kitchen so far. I can’t provide a list, but 3 big boxes of unused kitchen stuff went to our local charity shop and we no longer have to dig through the rubble to find a particular pot lid. Best of luck in your quest while we continue ours!

12. Myra
I’m with ya sista! I made de-cluttering one of my goals this year and I have a ton of crap in my 1920′s colonial. Amazing how much stuff you can accumulate in a year.

13. Lucia

14. Jen
Oh, I’m in! I had a goal of cleaning up my office/work area this month anyhow, so I’m going to put it in overdrive. Good luck everyone! I always like to think about my house as getting ready to sell – why wait until you sell it to have it looked all nice and staged and minor things fixed. Do it while you live there!

The day I decided that there is no reason to be the guardian of the family furniture, I felt a weight lift from my shoulders. Granted they are, or were, not valuable antiques, or of historical value. Rather, they were things I had grown up with. I tried to find homes in the family for them, but any home would work. I have a looong way to go.

17. Darci
I hear you! I actually started a bit, with several bags and boxes of toys and clothes to donation centers. More toys to our old preschool. And I even sold a few items. But I can definitely purge some more. Thanks for the inspiration!

18. Stephanie
Ready for it!

19. Klely
Love to de-clutter, and this may be just the motivation I need to keep at it.

20. Elizabeth
This’ll be fun!

21. Lori
I’m in! Over the holidays, I tackled the kitchen. I decided it was time to move room to room from there until, eventually, the whole house would be a little less full. The challenge should keep me on task!!

22. Cindy

23. Francesca
Great work!

24. Tamara
This is a great idea and something I really need to do!

25. Katie
I’m In! I just cleaned out about 200 paperback books & 3 bags of household items I’ve not looked at or used in the past few years. Just geting started again. I went through most of the closets this summer and am going back through again. How do we accumulate all this “stuff”? Free-cycle is my favorite way to clear out or, the local womens shelter for clothing

26. Bee
Sounds fun! I’m going to focus on detashing and re-organizing all my crafting / work supplies. Thanks Karen! :)

27. Jenn
Started thinking about this right after the calendar turned to 2012 and our company left us with a too-full to be empty apartment. We just bought a house so the less I have to pack to move the better! I’m so in.

28. Liz
This is a great idea! It’s a new year and I’m ready to de clutter!

I’m in! Started by taking out the hot tub in my basement which does not get used and takes up lots of space. Sent an email to friends to see who wanted it, got a bunch of guys from my church to take it out of the house and deliver it to its new destination where it will get used.

33. Caitlin
I do need to de-clutter…haha

34. Masa
I would love to join! will be the challenge going on after one month? I will need more months and would love to have buddies on the way. :)

35. Julia
Hi ecokaren,
What a fun and worthwhile idea….I am IN! It is great to have a community of support when I do this because it is HARD for me to let got of my stuff! You will have to explain how to list your site on my side bar…or tonight I am going to a class on blogging so this will become second nature to me. Sonya had explained it to me before…but with out doing it EVERY DAY…I just cant remember.

This is going to be a huge challenge for me. My life has been in storage for 2.5 years. My three car garage is stuffed with boxes that need to be unpacked; things that have to be sold; donated; and/or given away to charity.

I am committed to de-cluttering my house. I do get a little stuck when I have a huge pile of stuff that have a lot of memories. But I will break through and accomplish it.

I found out one of the easiest ways to declutter and break the ties with “sentimental” stuff that I was hanging onto in case my children would someday want them. I had an ‘ah-ha!’ moment and simply asked them, (they are all in their late teens and mid twenties) “Do you guys want any of these things from Grandma, Aunt so and so, etc?” They all said, “No, but thanks anyway”. Yay! That took care of the dilemma I had with what to do with all the stuff that was taking up valuable space in my tiny home! I was over with the sentimentality of it all and this added even more gumption to finally let go. Maybe this will help someone else. Cheers!

So funny this should come up as we literally just took 2 ‘truckloads’ in my Toyota Highlander of ‘stuff’ to our local thrift shop that benefits our local animal shelter. My life feels so much lighter. TOTALLY cleaning out my studio – reorganizing shelves, boxes of materials, etc! Love this idea!

77. Jennifer
I know it is a bit late in the month, but I’d like to sign up. My hubby and I hope to be moving in about 4 months, so we have some preparation to do. We figure we have about a month of weekends (about 32 days total) to get everything pared down and packed up. This challenge is just what we need to stay motivated…since we have had the tendency in the past to just pack up and move over the course of a weekend (ie packing boxes as we load them onto the truck), though even with last minute packing we are almost always able declutter a ton of stuff.

78. Kimberly

Thanks for this- I’ve been really trying to do this consistently since last February- and I think I “”have it”", and can’t trim down anymore and then, it’s like peeling the layers off an onion. Oh, I didn’t miss that, I can go another step. But, it’s amazing when I look around- there is still much to let go of- why so hard? Who can give hints about letting go of things with sentimental attachments?

It’s nice to be encouraged by you- thanks-

My house is cluttered with items I don’t use on a daily basis. I live with my husband and 2 young boys. Every time I organize within 2 to 3 days its a mess again. I work long days and am tired of coming home to a cluttered messy home. I want to just grab miscellaneous items from every room and toss them in a box and give them away. Let’s hope I can go through with it!

I am late joining but have been trying to work on de-cluttering my home. I am trying to take a section at a time of my studio/office and my garage. I am trying to regularly donate items to charity and they call at least twice a month. It is coming, but I want it to be done faster, so sometimes get frustrated. It does feel so good though to see each area when it is finished. I will enjoy reading how all of you manage the process.
