No Impact Man

I heard about Colin Beaven last month and I kinda knew about him and yet I didn’t. But I saw this video and now I am dying to see the movie. Watch this trailer of a family living in New York City without using electricity (is that possible in NYC?), without using any mode of transportation except for walking (yup, no subways, no taxis, and no elevators), eating no meat [...]

Custom Orders – Upcycled Pillow Cases and Utensil Pouch

As you have might have guessed, unexpected trip to upstate for a marathon, back-to-school, school trips, and start of another busy sports season left me with no time to make anything for my shop. But as fate would have it, (crafting God wanted me to get back to crafting, I guess) I received two custom orders recently. So, I made these two beautiful items and I wanted to share them. [...]

Today is Earth Day

a little history on Earth Day…. In 1960′s, Gaylord Nelson, a senator from Wisconsin, was concerned about the fact that the environment was a non-issue in the politics in the U.S. He gave many lectures, attended conferences, demonstrations, and he wanted to convince the U.S. government to put environment on its political agenda. He even convinced President Kennedy to go on a five day conservation tour in eleven states but [...]

Say ‘No’ to Paper Cups

I realized today that I haven’t bought paper cups in awhile. I run my dishwasher once every two days and I noticed there’s been more cups in it. And then, it occurred to me that I haven’t bought paper cups in a while and we’ve been using glasses. When my kids were younger, we used paper cups and plastic cups instead of glass for obvious safety reasons. I’ll admit, it [...]

Ready for sale!

I’ve created some beautiful napkin rings, eyeglasses chain/ lanyard, and wine glass charms from beads that have been hiding in my daughter’s craft drawers. I’ve de-cluttered the craft room and added some compliments to the beads to make some unique finds. Presently, I’m working on making Beaded Stitch Markers. Unfortunately, since I am only working with orphaned beads, still charming and beautiful, I can’t take custom orders. Each of my [...]

Felting a wool sweater – is it eco friendly?

I tried felting. I can see how it could be considered a noble way to repurpose an old wool sweater. But, it took too much energy, mine and the earth’s, just to make it look, well, worth the time and resources. I manage to do one sweater but it took two days, five separate washings (couldn’t wash it with anything else for it might ruin other clothes from lint balls!!!!!) [...]

Second Chances

I am happiest when I’m creating and producing…. when I’m doing something good for me and for others. So I decided to make things…make things from what I would normally throw out…from things others donated….from things that had prior lives (love that term). I give them second chances (my first choice for the name of the etsy store and blog.) Don’t get me wrong. I love new things too but [...]
