Floor Savers; Reusable Chair Leg Pads

Thumbnail image for Floor Savers; Reusable Chair Leg Pads

I have hardwood floors and ceramic tiles on the first floor of my house. I used to use disposable felt pads to put under the legs so that the floor doesn’t get scratched. But more than that, so that I don’t get goosebumps and hair raising from hearing the screeching noise every time someone drags the chair on the floor. Scrrrrr-eeeee-chhhhh. Eeeeek. Goosebumps. Chills. Then one day, my Mom brought [...]

Buy Nothing Black Friday

Fridays are usually set aside for introducing fabulous sellers from Etsy. However, today is considered to be “Black Friday” or “Buy Nothing Day”.  As I said before, I strongly believe you have to assess what you truly need and what gifts you have to buy so that you don’t contribute to excess waste. And, if you need to buy  gifts for your loved ones for the holiday, you should buy [...]

Turnaround Design Product Review and Giveaway

GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED When Shannon Whealey of Turnaround Design contacted me to review her eco-friendly calendar, I was curious. I thought, “How can you make calendars eco-friendly? Calendars are the epitome of waste – once it’s used up, it’s garbage! You can’t reuse January of last year?” So, you can imagine the delightful smile on my face when I received the nicely packaged calendar printed on recycled paper in recycled [...]

NYC is the most eco friendly city in the country!

I had an unexpected opportunity to walk around NYC  last Friday when I visited Ecostore’s launch at Duane Reade.  I lived in and around NYC for the last thirty years and honestly, I never paid attention to what the big deal was about my city. I mean, why would people be jealous that I lived in NY? OK, so we have theaters, museums, restaurants, shopping, landmarks, and millions of eclectic [...]

Say ‘No’ to Paper Cups

I realized today that I haven’t bought paper cups in awhile. I run my dishwasher once every two days and I noticed there’s been more cups in it. And then, it occurred to me that I haven’t bought paper cups in a while and we’ve been using glasses. When my kids were younger, we used paper cups and plastic cups instead of glass for obvious safety reasons. I’ll admit, it [...]

My Favorite Green Products

It’s only been recent that I have been able to find “natural” cleaning products in the local supermarket aisles. I don’t have to go to the “Green Market” to find them anymore. What’s even better, the prices have come down too. Even Clorox makes its own line of “Green Works” now. The big guns are catching up. Finally, they noticed what we want. This is a list of products I’ve [...]

Felting a wool sweater – is it eco friendly?

I tried felting. I can see how it could be considered a noble way to repurpose an old wool sweater. But, it took too much energy, mine and the earth’s, just to make it look, well, worth the time and resources. I manage to do one sweater but it took two days, five separate washings (couldn’t wash it with anything else for it might ruin other clothes from lint balls!!!!!) [...]

Second Chances

I am happiest when I’m creating and producing…. when I’m doing something good for me and for others. So I decided to make things…make things from what I would normally throw out…from things others donated….from things that had prior lives (love that term). I give them second chances (my first choice for the name of the etsy store and blog.) Don’t get me wrong. I love new things too but [...]
