A machine that converts plastic back to oil

This is so wild! Thank you my friend KB for posting this clip on facebook. Watch the whole video. The reasons why this machine is valuable is surprising to me. And it’s not because it produces oil.

CA assembly approved ban on single use plastic and paper bags!!

According to San Francisco Gate, the state Assembly has narrowly approved a measure that would make California the first state in the nation to ban single-use plastic and paper bags from being handed out at grocery, convenience and other stores. San Francisco already banned plastic bags in favor of paper bags but since paper bags produce about twice the greenhouse gas emissions as plastic and results in about 80 percent [...]

Plastic in NYC drinking water

I live near the Kensico Reservoir, a reservoir that supplies New York City’s  drinking water. The road around the reservoir is one of the most beautiful scenic roads. Today’s weather was perfect for a picture I wanted to take of a certain spot for months. So I went out for some outdoor photography. And this is what waited for me today. If you obtain a fishing license, you can use [...]

The Endocrine Society’s report on BPA

I know most of you heard that Bisphenol A (BPA) is harmful and that hard plastic water bottles, that made Nalgene famous, contained BPA. Since the revelation, Nalgene and other ‘like’ manufacturers voluntarily pulled all their BPA containing plastic bottles off of the shelves and replaced them with “BPA-Free” water bottles. Wal-Mart also volunteered to take all the BPA containing products from shelves as well as Toys-R-Us. There is so [...]

Barnes and Noble joins the recycling fun

You know when you want to buy a red car and the only color cars you see on the road are red cars? Well, now that I know you can recycle filmy plastic bags, all I notice are those big tall recycling bins with circling arrows indicating “Plastic Bags Recycling”. (As I repeatedly make this point, I can hear myself sounding…….uh……stupid. Let me clarify that. I knew I can recycle [...]

What do I do with all these bread bags?

We don’t eat that much bread in our house. But lately, my son wants PB&J morning, noon, and night….on (gulp!) white bread. I have no problem with peanut butter (although almond or cashew butter would be better but I’ll settle with peanut butter as long as we are not consuming it by gallons) or the globs of fruit variety (at least they are from fruit) because I can get organic [...]

Environmentally responsible act a day!

Did you hear about this guy who did not throw out trash for a whole entire year? Yeah, it’s true and he blogged about it. He just finished his stint and I just caught a glimpse of it at the end. That’s mind boggling to me. As much as I try to recycle things around my house, I’m always throwing something out. In fact, today is a garbage pick up [...]

Help! I’m hooked on reusable bags

I went to one of those wholesale clubs yesterday. I love those places because I can buy in bulk, which means, less packaging. And they don’t give out bags so you can reuse their empty boxes to pack them in or bring your own bags. What a concept. When I first went to one years ago, I thought, “How rude that they don’t pack them for you in bags…like in [...]

Paper or Plastic? Neither

No doubt about it, plastic can be a lifesaver. Or at least make life convenient. But it can be lethal too. The latest plastic news that hit the media was relating to Bi Phenol – A (BPA) found in popular Nalgene water bottles and baby bottles. But it’s also in places that we can’t even imagine….like on the lining of milk cartons and on organic banana stems!! Even the famous [...]
